Can Coffee Make Us Fat?
You are misled if you think an espresso with 0 calories will not make you gain weight.
I know you may not want to hear this because you love coffee so much.
But hear me out first…
Caffeine acts on the adrenal glands by stimulating the production of adrenaline – a stress hormone.
Caffeine increases the heart rate, blood pressure, and elevates blood sugar levels making us more prone to storing body fat through the effects of insulin.
Caffeine also hinders the calming neurotransmitter GABA. Low GABA is linked to anxiety, which can lead to binge eating.
What To Do About It
1. Avoid coffee on an empty stomach as this makes everything worse. Only have it after breakfast
2. Replace it with herbal tea, turmeric latte, or chai or good quality organic decaf coffee
3. Address the underlying cause of fatigue, anxiety or low mood and weight issues.
I’ve seen how adrenal fatigue can be at the heart of these symptoms.
So if you’ve been doing all the ‘right’ things and not seeing a difference, then I encourage to explore this further.
